Is eWeLink Compatible with Apple HomeKit and Apple Siri Voice Commands?

Learn more how to integrate eWeLink devices with Apple's Siri

Updated over 2 weeks ago

eWeLink is a popular smart home platform designed to provide easy, cloud-based control over a wide range of smart devices, including switches, plugs, lights, sensors, and more. While it offers official integrations with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant, many users wonder about its compatibility with Apple Siri and the broader Apple ecosystem.

The short answer is: eWeLink does not offer native, direct integration with Apple HomeKit (Apple’s smart home platform). However, Siri voice control is still possible provided by the eWeLink app itself.

1. No Native HomeKit Integration

Apple HomeKit is Apple’s official smart home standard, and for a device to be natively recognized by the Home app or Siri without extra work, it must:

  • Be HomeKit-certified

  • Use HomeKit’s strict encryption protocols

  • Often require a special hardware chip

  • or be Matter smart home standard compatible.

Most eWeLink devices are not HomeKit-certified by default. They connect to the eWeLink cloud and not directly to Apple's Home app. Therefore, you cannot add an eWeLink device natively to the Home app without using workarounds like Homebridge (an unofficial, advanced solution) — which typically requires technical knowledge and manual configuration.

Recently, Sonoff has started to release Matter standard compatible products, such as Sonoff Mini R4M (Matter compatible relay version) and M5 Matter compatible wall switch, which natively support all Matter compatible smart home ecosystems, including Apple HomeKit.

2. Siri Shortcut Integration (Official)

Even though there’s no native HomeKit support, the eWeLink app offers Siri Shortcuts integration, which allows users to control devices using Siri voice commands via shortcuts. Here's how it works:

  • Inside the eWeLink app, you can create a Scene (e.g., “Turn on Living Room Light” or “Activate Heater”).

  • Once the Scene is created, you can bind it to a Siri Shortcut.

  • Then, you can record a custom Siri command (like "Hey Siri, turn on the living room light") to trigger that Scene.

This means:

  • You can use Siri on iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, or HomePod to control eWeLink devices indirectly.

  • You are not adding the individual devices directly to HomeKit, but rather using Siri to activate eWeLink Scenes stored in the eWeLink cloud.

3. Conditions and Limitations

While Siri Shortcuts provide basic voice control, there are some limitations compared to native HomeKit support:

  • Limited Device Status Feedback: Siri will not report device statuses (like whether a switch is on or off).

  • No Automation via Home App: You can't use HomeKit automations, triggers, or Home app scenes with eWeLink devices.

  • Cloud Dependency: The Shortcuts still depend on the eWeLink cloud and an internet connection.

  • Scene-Based, Not Device-Based: Only actions you define as Scenes can be triggered; you can't directly command a device without creating a Scene first.

4. Alternative: Homebridge and Advanced Methods

For advanced users who want full HomeKit integration, it’s possible to use:

  • Homebridge (an open-source software)

  • eWeLink Homebridge plugins (like homebridge-ewelink)

This method creates a bridge that tricks HomeKit into seeing eWeLink devices as native HomeKit accessories. However, it requires:

  • Running Homebridge on a server (like a Raspberry Pi, PC, or NAS)

  • Some technical setup and maintenance

  • Understanding that this is an unofficial, community-supported solution, not officially endorsed by Apple or eWeLink.

5. Integrating Matter smart home standard compatible devices into HomeKit

Matter is the new universal smart home standard developed by major players like Apple, Google, Amazon, and others through the Connectivity Standards Alliance (CSA). Its goal is to unify smart home device compatibility across different ecosystems, making it easy for users to mix and match devices without worrying about brand-specific limitations.

Since Apple is a founding member of the Matter initiative, HomeKit (now referred to as “Apple Home”) natively supports Matter-certified devices. This dramatically changes the landscape for brands like Sonoff, who now offer devices supporting Matter out of the box.

How Sonoff Matter Devices Integrate into Apple Home:

  1. Matter Certification:
Sonoff’s new Matter-compatible devices (like Matter smart switches, plugs, and relays) are certified according to Matter standards. These devices can be recognized natively by Apple's Home app as Matter accessories, just like HomeKit-native devices.

  2. Simple Pairing via Matter:
When you open the Apple Home app and select “Add Accessory”, you can scan the Matter Setup Code (printed on the device or manual) or use NFC pairing if supported.
    After pairing:

    • The Sonoff Matter device appears in your Home app just like any other HomeKit device.

    • You can control it with Siri, Home Automations, and HomeKit Scenes.

    • Device communication is secured end-to-end.

While you can pair and control Matter devices on your iPhone/iPad while at home, for remote access (controlling your devices outside your home network) and for advanced automations, you must have a Home Hub.

Apple-certified Home Hubs include:

  • HomePod (any model, including HomePod mini)

  • Apple TV 4K (2021 model or newer)

The Home Hub acts as a bridge to the internet and coordinates automations between devices when you are away.

Conclusion

Most eWeLink devices are not natively compatible with Apple HomeKit, but Siri voice commands are supported through Siri Shortcuts integration.

This allows users to easily create voice-controlled Scenes for basic smart home control without the complexity of advanced configurations. For everyday users looking for simple Siri control, setting up Siri Shortcuts through the eWeLink app is a fast and effective method. For power users who want deeper integration, Homebridge remains an option — but it requires additional technical expertise.

If you want the simplest way to control eWeLink devices using your voice on Apple devices, Siri Shortcuts provide a reliable and easy solution.

New, Matter compatible eWeLink devices are natively Apple HomeKit and Apple Siri compatible.
