Pairing Aqara Zigbee devices to third party hubs

Updated yesterday

Aqara's Zigbee devices use standard Zigbee 3.0 communication, meaning that most Zigbee products can be paired not only with Aqara Hubs, but also with Zigbee gateways and coordinators of other smart home platforms.

Compatibility with third-party platforms and Zigbee gateways may vary by product, so it’s recommended to check compatibility in the product description before purchasing.

For pairing Aqara Zigbee devices, refer to the pairing guide of the Zigbee hub or gateway you intend to use.

Platforms with great compatibility to Aqara Zigbee devices:

Home Assistant + Zigbee2MQTT

Excellent support for Aqara devices, especially sensors (motion, temperature, contact sensors, etc.).

Aqara actuators (e.g., relays, switches) also work but may be sensitive to timing and command repetition.

Advantages:

  • Open, up-to-date compatibility list

  • Configurable device-specific settings

Important:

  • Use a CC2652/CC1352 or EFR32-based coordinator for stability

  • OTA (firmware update) is not always supported

Conbee

Strong compatibility:

  • Basic sensors mostly work

  • Some newer models may require manual configuration for stable operation

Advantages:

  • Easy integration with Home Assistant or Node-RED

ZHA (Zigbee Home Automation integration in Home Assistant)

  • Several Aqara devices work well

  • Better support with newer firmware and modern Zigbee coordinators (e.g., Sonoff Zigbee Dongle-E, SkyConnect, or ZBT-1)

Platforms with limited compatibility:

1.eWeLink Zigbee Gateways

  • Several Aqara products can be integrated with some eWeLink Zigbee gateways (e.g., Aqara H1 light switches, certain supported sensor types)

  • Other Aqara devices may not work properly due to partially different Zigbee cluster mapping

2. Tuya Zigbee Gateways

  • Generally incompatible with Aqara devices, as Tuya uses a proprietary Zigbee implementation that does not ensure cross-vendor compatibility.

3. IKEA Tradfri Gateway

  • Usually does not support Aqara devices – IKEA does not aim for multi-brand compatibility
