Troubleshooting: if switch or relay does not work at all

Updated over 2 weeks ago

Is the smart eWeLink device properly powered and wired?

First, make sure you have proper voltage to power the smart device. Please note that some devices require 230V AC, but some others work from 5V or 7V-32V AC or DC.

Verify the necessary power voltage and AC or DC in the device manual or our product page.

Also, remember to verify polarity or the wiring: in terms of N / L (for AC powered devices) and +/- (for DC powered devices).

In case of devices powered by a 5V / 12V / 24V DC power adapter, please check if the power adapter is working properly, and also, that it provides at least the minimum power output (for example, see if 1A or 2A is required for device operation) required by the smart device.

If problem is not solved, continue reading the next section.

Is that a single-live-wire smart device?

Most smart devices (such as relays or wall switches) working with 230V AC power supply require both live and neutral wire, while special single-live-wire devices work with live wire only, without neutral wire.

Such single-live-wire devices always require an electric device (typically lamps / lights) wired in the circuit to work, that is they do not work without a load.

Also, in most cases you need to install a capacitor (also called as anti-flicker module) connecting the (L) and (N) wires at the lamp/light. Check if this is installed properly.

Note: some single-live-wire devices are sold with a capacitor in the product box, but some may not include that component.

If problem is not solved, continue reading the next section.

Please check if wiring does not have a contact problem.

Make sure, that the smart device is properly connected to electricity, that is, there is no contact problem with the wiring.

If all above is OK, you should be able to turn on/off the device with the on/off button of the device (if there is such a button on the device) and hear the switch of the switch or relay, and also see the power status LED change.

If there is still see no LED light, and you cannot turn on/off the switch or relay, you may have a hardware problem, and you may need a replacement.
